FAQ

  • LPG is Liquefied Petroleum Gas. Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) are obtained by refining of crude oil and from natural gas by oil absorption or refrigerated absorption process.
  • LP Gases are mixtures of hydrocarbons, which are gaseous at normal ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure, but can be liquefied at normal ambient temperature by application of moderate pressure.
  • It is a clean burning, non-poisonous, dependable, high calorific value fuel.
  • LPG is stored and transported in containers as a liquid, but is generally drawn out and used as a gas.
  • LPG in gaseous state is nearly twice as heavy as air. Any leakage of LPG, therefore, tends to settle down at floor level.
  • Liquid LPG is almost half as heavy as water. Thus, when liquid LPG gets converted to a gaseous state, it expands by about 250 times. The leakage of liquid LPG is therefore very dangerous.
  • LPG contains no toxic components such as carbon monoxide and is, therefore, non-poisonous.
  • Fuel gases will burn only when mixed with air in certain proportions. The minimum and maximum concentrations of a fuel gas in a gas / air mixture between which the mixture can be ignited are termed as the over and upper limit of inflammability – The lower flammability limit for LPG is 2% and the higher limit is 8.5%.
  • Pure LPG is colourless and odourless. LPG is distinctively odourised to give warning in case of leakage. Its smell is detectable in air at concentrations down to 1/5th of the lower explosive limit.
  • Portability : Cylinders can be transported easily to the location or can be fixed to mobile equipment.
  • Own Storage : Alternate gas suppliers make use of piped delivery system where the customer is affected the moment supply fails. LPG stored in cylinders or bulk installations provide a greater degree of product security.
  • Wide Turn Down : By this is meant the range of gas flow from maximum to minimum for a particular burner. Burners can be designed to operate over wide range.
  • Ease Of Control : Gaseous fuels are the easiest to control and are very quick in response i.e. you can light a fire within seconds of turning the burner knob on. Solid fuels are the slowest.
  • Small Flames : Many processes require a small flame, or a number of small flames rather than a big one. LPG is a good fuel for such applications.
  • Self-Pressurizing: LPG is stored under moderate pressure and therefore no pumps or gravity system is needed to get the fuel to the burner. Simple LPG burners are quite independent of electrical supply.
  • Consistent Quality : LPG as all petroleum fuels is subject to stringent quality controls and hence it is possible to maintain consistent quality of the product.
  • Clean Combustion : LPG is a high-grade fuel with negligible impurities producing ean sulphur -free combustion gases. This can be important for many processes especially where the gases come into contact with the products.
  • Little Maintenance : Many LPG burners are very simple and require little aintenance. The clean combustion gases ensure long life even for the more complex burners.

  • A cylinder with a self-closing valve.
  • A pressure regulator, which is connected to the outlet of the valve.
  • A gas stove or a cooking range (appliance).
  • Rubber tube connecting the regulator to the appliance.

Know how the cylinder should be kept

  • Vertical with valve facing upwards.
  • Away from any source of heat or a naked flame.
  • On or above ground level with adequate ventilation.
  • In an easily accessible position.

Know how to install your gas connection

  • Make sure the valve on the cylinder is shut, by turning the pressure regulator knob to the OFF position.
  • Open the valve by turning the pressure regulator knob to the ON (vertical) position.
  • Make sure the burner taps are also closed.
  • Make sure there is no smell of gas.
  • Light a match and hold it to the burner.
  • Turn on the burner by rotating the knob in the ,anti-clockwise direction.
  • Shut the burner after use.
  • Shut the valve of the cylinder by turning the pressure regulator knob to the OFF position.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO SHUT THE VALVE WHEN STOVE IS NOT IN USE ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.

Learn how to take care of your stove

  • Harsh cleaners can damage the finish. Don’t use abrasive powders, highly acidic or alkaline cleansers.
  • Wait for surfaces to cool. If the stove is hot and you try to clean it with a wet cloth, the surface finish may crack.
  • Some foodstuffs can damage the finish. Vinegar, sour milk, citrus fruits juices, tamarind decoctions
  • can all damage the finish. If some such liquid spills on the stove, wipe it off with a dry cloth, wait for the stove to cool, clean with warm soap water and dry.
  • Ordinary stains can be cleaned easily. Some baking soda on a damp cloth does the trick. A mild cleanser may be used for stubborn stains.
  • A chrome finish can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Or any good chrome cleanser.
  • Clean the burner head and mixing tube the right way. Immerse the mixing tube assembly and the burner head completely in a boiling solution of washing soda. Keep it for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly internally and externally. Dry completely to prevent corrosion.
  • The burner holes should be cleaned with a soft wire. The mixing tube can be cleaned with a stiff bottlebrush.
  • Pan supports can be cleaned the same way.
  • Put out all fires in the kitchen. This includes diyas, agarbatties, cigarettes and all naked flames; otherwise any leakage of gas could result in fire.
  • Switch off all electrical appliances.
  • Shut the taps on the stove.
  • Have the rubber tube and all the connections checked for leakage with soap solution.
  • Insist that your deliveryman checks cylinder valve and O-ring for any leakage.

  • At a higher level than the cylinder – about 2 ft to prevent the tube from catching fire.
  • Against a wall to make sure that clothes don’t catch fire.
  • Away from curtains.
  • Away from wind draughts to prevent the flame going out and causing leakage of gas.

NOTE: Make sure there are no shelves above the stove REMEMBER THAT YOUR APPLIANCE MUST HAVE AN ISI MARK AND HAVE IT TESTED BY A MECHANIC BEFORE YOU USE IT.

  • Use  SURAKSHA  LPG hose of approved quality, (ISI mark).
  • It should be as short as possible. Maximum length should be about 1.5 meters.
  • It should be easily accessible for inspection.
  • Keep it away from heat and fire.
  • Ensure it covers the full length of the nozzle of the gas stove.
  • Make sure it does not get heated by the burner, or is looped/twisted.
  • Clean it with wet cloth only. Don’t use soap to ease the tube over the nozzle.
  • Check it regularly for cracks, holes, softness, and porosity especially at the ends.
  • Replace Suraksha hose  every 5 years if not earlier.
  • Do not cover Suraksha hose  by any other object or sleeve.
  • Always remember to shut the value when the stove is not in use, especially at night.Don’t tamper with your cylinder or allied equipment.
  • Make sure all parts of the installation are in good condition. If you find anything wrong with any part, contact your distributor and ask for a mechanic.
  • It is safer to wear cotton clothing while working in the kitchen.Do not use dupatta to handle utensils, preferably use an apron.
  • Keep children away from the installation while you’re cooking.
  • Use dry pot holders.
  • Never leave the hotplate on and unattended. The burners could extinguish by overflow of cooking material or even draught of air) allowing gas to leak. The accumulated gas could get ignited by the second burner in operation (or other sources) resulting in fire.
  • Turn pan handles to the side away from the flame. Keep plastic items away from the stoves.
  • 50% of cooking gas-related accidents occur because of leakages from the rubber tube.
  • Get your tube changed, whenever it is damaged. And as a rule, replace the rubber tube every two years.
  • Keep the safety cap on over unused cylinders.
    Use Suraksha LPG Hose.
  • Don’t Panic.
Turn the pressure regulator knob to the OFF position.
  • Put out all fires in the kitchen (including agarbatti and pooja lamp).
  • Open all doors and windows for ventilation.
  • Do not strike a match and do not operate any electric switches (including main switch). Electrical switches and dry cell torches generate spark while switching on or off.
  • Call the Emergency number or the distributor immediately.

Points to remember while taking delivery of Cylinder

  • Do you know that a domestic cooking gas cylinder contains 14.2 Kg (plus or minus 150 gm) of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)?
  • Now add to that the weight of the empty cylinder (already marked on its body). And you arrive at the correct weight of a filled cooking gas cylinder. Anything less and you are not getting your due.
  • All our Deliverymen carry DIGITAL Weighing Scales, They are supposed to weigh your cylinder before you, if he dosent Kindly Insist on weighing your cylinder or call at our office at 01724657170
  • What should you do? In spite of all there tests, you may still suspect that you are paying for an under weight cylinder, at the time of taking delivery. To put your doubts to rest, all you need to do is to call up Ravinder Enterprises at 9878860517. He will weigh your cylinder, in your presence. And if your cylinder is indeed underweight, we will replace it immediately. At no extra charge.

Organise your cooking

Prepare all the ingredients and keep them ready for cooking. This means you can cook rapidly. If you have to stop cooking for a short while shut off the gas. It’s cheaper to light another match.

The family that eats together saves gas If you have to heat food just once,it means less waste. Reheated food is also less nutritious.

A gas burner has two positions – use them

Once you bring a liquid to boil or the food becomes hot you can keep it hot by using the simmer position hereby saving a lot of gas. Because at the simmer position gas flows out at only 1/4 to 1/3 the full rate. Try it out and see.

The colour and height of the flame are very important

If the flame is blue in colour, everything is fine. If the outlet holes are blocked and the flame is yellow, have the stove checked by a mechanic. The flame should never extend beyond the bottom of the pan. This saves gas and makes sure the food is cooked properly, especially if there is liquid inside the pan or vessel.

LPG is a clean fuel and hence the Government of India wanted to popularize the use of this fuel by subsidizing LPG for domestic use making it affordable for the consumer. However, due to LPG being subsidized, there is dual pricing in the market which has lead to unscrupulous elements misusing subsidized LPG for other than domestic purposes.

Government of India launched the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) Scheme in 291 districts covering over 9 crore consumers effective 1st June’2013

DBTL is now held in abeyance since 10th March2014.

The scheme has been launched in six phases as under:

Phase DBTL launch on Number of Districts
I 1.06.13 20
II 1.09.13 34
III 1.10.13 43
IV 1.11.13 38
V 1.12.13 49
VI 1.01.14 107
Total 291

Under the scheme Customers will have to pay the market price for the cylinder and the subsidy amount will be transferred to their bank account. Effectively, the government wants to provide .Your benefit in your account. which means .subsidy directly reaches the intended beneficiary as the amount is credited in his bank account.

Once the scheme is launched in the district, customers who have not completed formalities for being cash transfer compliant will get 3 months to complete the formalities. During this period they will get cylinders at the subsidized price. But if they do not complete formalities to become Cash Transfer compliant (CTC) within the grace period, they will continue to get cylinders but they will have to pay the non subsidised price (market price) for the cylinder.

What needs to be done by the customer?

The customer needs to do the following:

  • 1. Obtain the Aadhaar number
  • 2. Get his Aadhaar number linked to his consumer number
  • 3. Also link his Aadhaar number to his bank account

How it works?

The Government notifies the districts for the launch of DBTL scheme. The customers in the DBTL districts need to be Cash Transfer compliant (CTC) i.e. the customer has to obtain an Aadhaar number, get the Aadhaar linked to the bank account and also to his LPG consumer number.

On launch of the scheme, all Cash Transfer Compliant Customers will get a fixed advance amount when they book cylinder for the first time after the scheme is launched, presently this amount is Rs. 435/-. This advance is given so that the Customer does not have difficulty in paying for the cylinder at market price. This advance amount remains with the consumer till he surrenders the connection. The amount is recovered from the consumer at the time of surrender of connection.

On delivery of the cylinder, the consumer will also get the actual subsidy for that cylinder upto the capped quota of cylinders (which includes cylinders delivered to the consumer at subsidised price during the financial year). VAT applicable if any, will have to be borne by the consumer.

You may want to surrender your LPG connection as you are shifting to a new address.
